New Mexico

Below is a list of locations in New Mexico, with post tags/labels attached. For easy access, a list of all other labels can be found here.

Only the most notable and/or relevant communities — especially including ones that, based on my current backlog of data, will/may come up in the future — within 22 of the state's 33 counties are listed here. Relatively few of these will have tags associated with them, but I have listed all that (will) come up at least once, as well as other significant/populous communities, including ones that have/had its own newspaper. Furthermore, for a lot of the counties with relatively small populations, and/or where the populations are highly concentrated in one city, I have chosen to list really any community with a population of 1,000 or greater.

The communities — cities/towns, incorporated communities, census-designated places, and (less frequently) unincorporated communities — are listed alphabetically underneath each county subheading. Each county seat is bolded, and the largest community by population in each county is italicized. Large cities have also been broken down into neighborhoods when relevant. Two asterisks (**) denotes independent cities / consolidated city and county governments.

Also to be included are "protected lands," primarily regional, state, and national parks and forests. It should be noted that many of these protected lands had not yet received official designation during the time period on which this blog focuses (1960s and 70s).

I have also included information regarding tribes, nations, and reservations in each county, sourced and cross-referenced from the New Mexico Secretary of StateIndian Pueblo Cultural Center, and Wikipedia. I have opted to use the full, official name of each tribe, as well as note when a tribe or reservation was recognized or established — if I notice that said date is after the time frame of this blog — for the sake of comprehensiveness.

This is intended as both a place to find tags, as well as a general reference list. Even if not the case for others, I find it useful myself, especially when needing to consider jurisdictions!
