About
Hello! I am Ez. If you found me through other sites, then you may know me as my common username, FlyOfDragons. I am a college student from the East Coast. My pronouns are she/her.
My research began in July 2024 with unsolved crimes from Northern California that have been suspected by various people to be connected to those perpetrated by the Zodiac and Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Killers. I fell down the rabbit hole from there. It has now grown to encompass unsolved cases in California and other western states from the 1960s to early 80s.
Because of this personal project's origins, I tend to write about cases concerning young victims (primarily teens and young adults) whose deaths were seemingly caused by an unknown person without a motive. By that I mean a) it is possible/likely that someone outside the victim's close circle (family, partners, close friends) perpetrated the crime, and b) it was likely done for reasons other than money, drugs, gang activity, or personal relations like revenge, ex-partners, jealousy, etc.
Often the victims are women or girls, and the crimes are frequently sexually motivated. Furthermore, by its very nature as a "true crime" blog, many of the posts involve violence that readers may find graphic or disturbing. Reader discretion is advised.
All posts are my own work. I do not gain any profits from this blog. Others who use any of my writing, even as just a source, must ask for my permission/notify me and credit me fully (i.e. simply stating the blog name and providing a link). You can contact me on my Reddit profile at Fly_Of_Dragons, preferably only when asking for permission to credit me; otherwise, please keep things in this blog's comments or in a thread on any of the forums and subreddits I inhabit. I am open to polite criticism and feedback, as well as questions and write-up requests. Please keep comments civil and respectful toward victims and their loved ones.
All write-ups consist solely of information gathered through my own research, primarily newspaper clippings. I often use a lot of the same wording as the reports I find, as I do not want to misconstrue anything. I always note when something comes from my own thoughts or interpretation; all other details that are not prefaced with this disclaimer during the presentation of facts are from another source.
Furthermore, I withhold all opinions and theories until after I have presented the facts. After the primary bulk of text of each write-up I also include how I found out about the case and any connections it may have to others, followed by sources.
I use three kind of sources: accounts, user-created, and genealogy. Accounts are the most official I can find: NamUs, newspaper clippings, sheriff's department websites, police bulletins, modern news reports, etc. Databases like the Doe Network and Charley Project are a bit in the "account" category, a bit "user-created."
User-created references include blogs, forums, Reddit posts, Facebook communities, etc. I do not use these as my main sources while recounting the events; instead, they often provide insight into what others online think about the case. I also provide many of the links simply because I want to get every online reference to the crime in one place, especially because this is often how I find out about cases.
And lastly, genealogy. I love doing genealogical work, so I often go searching to see what I can dig up. FindAGrave is a major source for me, and I contribute to it very often. I also heavily utilize Ancestry, though I do not provide links to it in my write-ups so as to maintain family privacy. Despite this, I do a lot of research and fact-checking to ensure that all information, not just genealogical, that I include is as accurate and respectful as possible.
