Hanks theory article package, 1976-86
The following four articles concern a series of murders of women of color in the Bay Area c.1971 to 1976. At one point in time John Norris Hanks was linked to these cases; he has been convicted in the 1966 East Palo Alto murder of his sister-in-law Lela Bell Tucker, as well as the 1980 murder of Arnetta Oakes in San Jose.
Hanks was also suspected for a time to be the Green River Killer, however this was eventually ruled out. Whether Hanks is still believed to be connected to these other murders is unknown.
The San Francisco victims named in these articles are:
Yvonne Quilantang, 15, found June 10, 1973
Norma Jean Nelson, 21, found October 2, 1975
Joetta Rodgers, 26, found May 3, 1976
Jessie May Rose, 21, found August 29, 1976
Patricia Ann Crawford, 22, found October 24, 1976
Paulette Douglas, 16, found December 12, 1976
It should be noted that, contrary to what the articles state, Yvonne Quilantang was not Black at all, but instead white and Filipina. Arnetta Oakes's first and last names are occasionally misspelled as "Annette" and "Oaks."
