The Murder of Everett Lloyd Bradley, February 1974

At the time of his death, Everett Lloyd Bradley, a 19-year-old Black man, was employed as a cook. At either 7:00 or 7:41pm on Friday, February 1, 1974, Everett's wife Emma and her mother-in-law Everett's mother, Rosa returned to the couple's home at 80 West Point Rd in San Francisco. Emma had been in the hospital, and had not seen Everett since Wednesday, January 30.

Upon returning home, Emma and Rosa discovered Everett's body sprawled behind a couch in the living room. He had been stabbed several times in the back. According to investigators, there was evidence of a violent struggle in the front room of the house.

While newspapers don't state when he was last seen by anyone other than Emma, his death date is listed as February 1st on all records and clippings that I could find, so it seems that it is believed that he died on the same day that he was found.

Everett Lloyd Bradley was born in Jefferson County, TX on September 2, 1954 to parents Robert Lee Bradley and Rosa Vivian Bassard (b. 1925). He was the youngest of six siblings. Two of his older sisters, Aquilla and Verna, passed away in 1966 and 1969, respectively. The family seems to have moved to California sometime after Verna's death.

On August 16, 1973, a few weeks before his 19th birthday, Everett married 36-year-old Emma C Everline in Contra Costa County, CA. In a marriage announcement published in The Richmond Independent, available below, Everett's age is listed as 20 years old; this was either an error on the newspaper's part, or Everett provided an age other than his actual one in order to seem older. Both Everett and Emma lived in San Francisco at the time: Everett at 1054 Fell St, and Emma at 80 West Point Rd. The latter address is the same one in which the couple were living at the time of Everett's death, and is the same location where Everett was murdered; it can therefore be determined that, upon getting married, Everett moved into Emma's apartment with her, rather than vice versa or them getting a new place.

Announcement of the issue of a marriage license to Everett Bradley and Emma Everline published in the Sept. 5, 1973 edition of The Richmond Independent

Everett is buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, San Mateo County, CA. According to FindAGrave, he has no headstone. His parents divorced in October 1975, a little over a year and a half after Everett's death. His sisters Carolyn and Mamie died in 1979 and 2010, respectively, while their father Robert Sr passed away in 1986. It seems that Everett's mother Rosa, as well as his older sisblings Robert Jr and Vivian, may still be alive.

I found out about Everett's murder while searching through newspapers, hence the "My Research" tag on this event.
Little can be found about his case, but his murder was still unsolved by November 14, 1974, more than nine months after his death. His case is not listed on the San Francisco Cold Case page, however other notable cases — such as Paul Stine's — are also not included on that page, so it is uncertain whether Everett's case is still cold/unsolved.
